2023 - 2025. Director of the Project: 101102978 — SSpaceGX. “Social Space and Nature Conservation in the Gerês-Xurés Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (Portugal/ Spain)”. Funded by the program Horizon Europe (HORIZON) of the European Union.

The project aims to analyze the social space of nature conservation in the Gerês-Xurés Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (GXTBR) at the borders of Portugal and Spain. With this analysis the main objective is to create a multidimensional model of the socio-environmental dynamics in this biosphere reserve over the last decades to the present (years 2000 to 2023). To do so, it will be necessary to incorporate an entirely new methodology into classical social space studies in order to account for the environmental dimensions of social dynamics. Specifically, advanced geospatial analysis combined with ethnographic approaches will be developed to improve geometric data analysis (the established methodology for social space construction).

06/02/2022 – 06/02/2026. Director of the Project: “Evolution of social inequalities around transboundary Protected Natural Areas of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay”. Place: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (National University of Misiones). Funded by the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (Argentina).

The main objective of this research is to analyze the socio-environmental dynamics of the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve (Argentina) and the Iguazú National Park (Argentina) within the context of their interdependences with territorially interconnected protected natural areas in neighboring countries, specifically the Turvo National Park (Brazil), the Iguaçu National Park (Brazil), and the Moisés Bertoni Park (Paraguay). So, from the last decade to the present, the social transformations associated with the development of this set of protected natural areas are revisited, taking into account: (I) the evolution of unequal living conditions in the involved and nearby jurisdictions; and (II) the environmental transformations currently underway, and associated with provincial, national, and transnational programs for economic development and nature conservation.

14/04/2023 – 14/04/2024. Team member of the project: “Territorialities III. Local keys to environmental sustainability and social inclusion in the Posadas/Encarnación Transboundary Binational Metropolitan Area”. Project Director: Mgter. Diana Arellano. Place: Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (National University of Misiones).
